Teacher Leadership

A teacher leader sees unlimited potential in themselves, their peers, and their students. Teacher leaders support others and recognize opportunities for growth. They make connections and advocate for equity in education. Teacher leaders are brave.

Before starting Wipro, I had a lot of experience teaching and leading at Camp Edmo. When I became a full time teacher with SFUSD, I had to start over in many ways and grow more confident while learning to be organized.

I entered Wipro shortly after completing new teacher induction. I began tuly finding my voice among other veteran teachers at my school. As a second year science fellow, I reflected on how students felt valued and supported at camp. I wanted to bring that energy to my leadership. Ad camp, middle school “leaders in training” support teachers and counselors to deliver quality S.T.E.A.M. education. They also bring great perspective and fun to the camp community because they are often former campers themselves.  I enjoyed mentoring these young leaders as a camp director. I am beginning to reconnect with these skills at my school.

During my first few years of teaching, I relied on my colleagues to make decisions and lead curricular goals. Thanks to my time at Wipro I have learned to be more flexible and more organized. I have also learned to be more confident when it comes to working and collaborating with others. I am beginning to have more fun and bring back the joyful energy  felt when working at camp because I am becoming more student-centered in my planning and collaboration with others.

I am learning to be a leader all year as I am now planning for next year and working with community partners to provide resources for our school. I am also bringing back what I have learned to my district as I help develop our science curriculum for our return to in-person learning.
